There is Life in Jesus

Dear reader, for centuries men have been trying to define life. One definition that is freely available to any of us is as follows:

“Life is a quality that distinguishes matter that has biological processes, such as signaling and self-sustaining processes, from matter that does not. It is defined descriptively by the capacity for homeostasis, organization, metabolism, growth, adaptation, response to stimuli, and reproduction” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life).

Even if these biological concepts sound too complex, you would agree that you have biological life. The fact that you are reading these lines with a level of consciousness is enough proof of that!

However, we all know that this biological or physical life will come to an end someday.

True life is found only in Jesus.

Many centuries ago, the Lord Jesus Christ said these words: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Clearly, Jesus was not speaking here of biological life. The people who were listening to Him talk were clearly alive in that way already. But then we must ask, what life was He speaking about?

He was speaking about spiritual life. Without Jesus, we all are spiritually dead even though we have biological life!

In the first century, around 60 A. D., the Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Christians in Ephesus: “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world” (Ephesians 2:1-2).  Dear reader, what Paul said to those Christians in Ephesus is also true of YOU right now! Without exception, everyone who has biological life but does not have a living relationship with Jesus Christ is DEAD spiritually.

How can I get this life that Jesus spoke about?

Our biological life began when we were conceived in our mother’s womb, and we entered this world on our birthday! In a similar way, to receive the life that Jesus spoke about, we must be born again—or, to put it in other terms, we must be born from above.

Jesus talked about this with Nicodemus, who was known as a “ruler of the Jews” (John 3:1). He asked the Lord Jesus, “How can a man (here he also meant any human being, man or woman) be born when he is old?” (John 3:4). We learn that this new birth is brought about by believing the Bible, for we are “born again not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever” (1 Peter 1:23).

The Bible makes it clear that every human being is born as a sinner. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It also goes on to point out that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Here, the Bible is talking about eternal death, which is total separation from God, the giver of life.

To escape the punishment that we each deserve, we need to do the following:

  1. REPENT: We need to come to the point where we acknowledge that what the Bible says about us is true; we have all sinned, and despite our best efforts we feel as though we can’t help it. Therefore, there is a need to repent, to have a change of mind that agrees with God about our sins. We need “repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts: 20:21).
  2. PUT OUR TOTAL CONFIDENCE (i.e., BELIEVE) IN JESUS: We need to believe that “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15: 3-4).

If we sincerely do what is stated above, the Lord Jesus gives us Eternal Life!

He said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:27-28).

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Conclusion: Dear reader, there is life in Jesus! You simply need to believe the Scriptures that have been shared with you in this little message.
